Some people pass through life known by one name. In the Bikram Yoga world, Juan Manuel Martin-Busutil is such a character. He is the 2012 International Yoga Asana Champion and he’s coming to Australia in March 2013. So far his tour includes Bikram Yoga Fitzroy, Bikram Yoga Brookvale, Bikram Yoga Gold Coast and Bikram Yoga Kawana, Sunshine Coast, where I’m currently teaching. It’s big news, huge news actually and we’re super excited!

I was lucky enough to hang out with Juan in Stockholm, where he lead beginners & advanced classes and several posture clinics. I know the guy but on starting this post I realised how little I actually do; I even have difficultly finding words to describe him. I googled Juan looking for background info and nada! Hmm intriguing how well known, yet unknown someone can be. Some pics, some vids, no bio, even his fb has scant info: born 24 June 1978, although his history (moved to/traveled to) is documented.
If Juan was art, The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai comes to mind. There is so much action, beauty and serenity in this work. I don’t have to know the artist, his background, nor other work he’s done. I’m simply honoured to have the woodblock print on my wall and enjoy the meditative state it invokes.
Juan will be at Bikram Yoga Kawana on Sat 23 March. If you haven’t booked his posture clinic, come! Actions speak louder than words.

Nice post, Matt. Indeed I’ve discovered Juan during last year’s competition and he’s fantastic. Lucky you to have him there! Already looking forward to reading your comments on Juan’s workshop. Love.
Thank you Juan-Miguel! I’m always chuffed when you comment; so nice to still be in contact with you. And cheers for the prompt, I will write a follow up on his visit. Stay bendy!
