Lost in translation

oh wise one please help my EspanolTaking a morning break, I found myself relaxing at a local cafe in Barcelona with the chicas (girls) behind my webpage design and support cookieweb.ie.

Embracing our surroundings, we offered the waiter our best Espanol: For the girls, “dos cafe con leche” (2 coffees with milk) and I, a simple “uno espresso por favor” (1 coffee please). Then with a growing air of confidence, we translated our way down the small bocadillo (sandwich) menu, propped against the doorway.

I was feeling quite the smarty pants, having progressed to CD 10 of my Spanish lessons while Heidi, at CD 3 and Orla, CD 1 were holding their own. The girls coffees where whisked onto the table and then to their delight, and my sheepish consternation, a bottle of Estrella beer appeared in front of me.. wtf?! Espresso = Estrella. Ha ha, I should have ordered “uno cafe solo” Heidi had quipped, when I placed my order.

I settled into my beer, mentally rescheduling my 14:15 Bikram Yoga class to the later 19:00 and murmered to myself quietly, “no problema”.
